how i deal with stress as a young startup founder
honestly, probably not that good yet, but i'm trying to become better at it.
i think founding something is inherently stressful. you mix a lot of uncertainty with the need to be fast because of competition, pure self-accountability, no revenue, and a crazy amount to build.
guess what you get: a very easy way to be stressed.
that's why we also had a workshop about managing stress at the delta from iulia a few days ago.
how i'm dealing with it
-
i have a coach (jakob), honestly helps a lot, we have a session every two weeks. usually he just asks me questions, and we explore different parts within me. i don't know why or how, but this helps immensely.
-
relatively slow mornings with meditation and stretching as a must. i never skip this.
-
take one day off per week. that day i don't open my laptop, usually try to be in nature.
-
lots of social time with friends. i notice how good this does me to balance the deep focus during the day.
-
sports almost every day, used to run a lot, right now doing powerlifting.
-
talking to other entrepreneurs. honestly, helps a lot, to hear how they deal with it. also talking to my co-founder, sharing my fears etc. usually, if one of us is in a stressful phase, the other one is more relaxed, so that helps.
what i want to do more of
-
outside of work, doing things slow. during work, i'm trying to optimize for efficiency all the time. i then take that with me into life, and it keeps my nervous system on edge.
-
distraction free time. just looking at a wall for 20 minutes a day. literally doing nothing, to give my brain a break.
